LED lighting installation in the Perth Hills & Perth metro

The right lighting changes how a home or business looks and feels, and LED lighting costs less to run than older halogen fittings. Kivalo Electrical installs and upgrades indoor, outdoor and feature lighting across the Perth Hills and greater Perth.

Indoor lighting

LED downlights are a popular way to light living areas, kitchens and hallways. Good installation matters: fittings need appropriate clearance where ceiling insulation is present, and if you want dimming, the lights and the dimmer need to be compatible.

Outdoor, alfresco and garden lighting

Eave lights extend the usable hours of an alfresco area, and low-voltage garden and pathway lighting makes paths, steps and pool surrounds safer at night. Outdoor fittings need a suitable weather rating, and sensors or timers can keep running costs low.

Feature lighting

LED strips under cabinets and shelves, or in ceiling recesses, add task lighting and atmosphere. They're flexible, but the power supply and where it goes need planning so the result looks tidy.

Planning your lighting

  • Colour: warm white (around 2700–3000K) feels cosy in living areas; cooler white suits work areas like kitchens and garages.
  • Layout: the number and spacing of lights affects evenness. More isn't always better.
  • Control: decide where you want switches, dimmers or sensors before the work starts.

What affects the cost

Lighting jobs range from swapping a few fittings to a full new layout, so the price depends on the scope. What affects the cost:

  • The number and type of fittings, and whether you supply them.
  • Whether the existing wiring can be reused or new cabling is needed.
  • Ceiling access, insulation and ceiling height.
  • Dimmers, sensors and other controls.
  • Outdoor work, which needs weather-rated fittings and cable protection.

Kinetic Switching

Add or move a light switch without opening up the walls.

A kinetic switch is powered by the movement of pressing it, so it needs no battery and no cable running back to the switchboard. It sends a wireless signal to a receiver that controls the light. The short clip shows one in action, working with no wiring attached to the switch.

  • No chasing walls. Add a switch in a finished room, renovation or older home without cutting into walls or ceilings.

  • Put it where you want it. Place a switch exactly where it's handy, such as beside a bed, by a doorway or in a spot that would be hard to wire.

  • No batteries to replace. The press itself generates the power for the signal, so there's nothing to charge or swap out.

  • More than one switch per light. Control the same light from several places, without running extra wiring between them.

Whether kinetic switching suits your lights and existing wiring depends on the job. Ask us and we'll advise.

FAQ

Lighting: your questions answered.

Warm white or cool white lighting?

Warm white (around 2700–3000K) suits living areas and bedrooms, while cooler white suits kitchens, laundries and garages. Many people use warm white throughout and add task lighting where needed.

Can downlights be installed where there is ceiling insulation?

Yes, provided suitable fittings are used and the required clearances are kept around them. This is something your electrician should plan for.

Can you add lights to an existing circuit?

Often yes, but it depends on the existing wiring and the total load. We'll check before quoting.

Are LED lights cheaper to run?

LEDs generally use much less energy than halogen or incandescent lights that give the same amount of light, so they usually cost less to run.
