CCTV and security camera installation in the Perth Hills

A security camera system is only useful if the cameras are in the right places, the footage is clear, and you can actually get to it when you need it. Kivalo Electrical supplies and installs CCTV and security camera systems for homes and businesses across the Perth Hills and greater Perth.

Planning where cameras go

  • Cover the areas that matter: entry doors, driveways, side gates and access points.
  • Mount cameras high enough to be out of easy reach, but low enough to capture faces.
  • Think about lighting: night footage is much better with some ambient or sensor light.
  • Point cameras at your own property. Aiming at a neighbour's home or yard can cause disputes.

Recording and viewing

Footage is usually stored on a recorder in your home or business, in the cloud, or both. Most modern systems let you watch live or recent footage on your phone, which needs an internet connection. How long footage is kept depends on the number of cameras, the picture quality and the storage you choose.

Cabling and power

Wired cameras are generally more reliable than Wi-Fi cameras, and a tidy installation keeps cabling out of sight in eaves and ceiling spaces where possible.

Privacy

Recording audio is more tightly restricted than recording video in Western Australia, so it's worth asking before turning it on. Keeping cameras focused on your own property is the safest approach.

What affects the cost

The price depends on how many cameras you want and how hard it is to run cable to each spot. What affects the cost:

  • The number of cameras and the picture quality you want.
  • Wired or wireless cameras, and how far the cable has to run.
  • Access to eaves, ceilings and walls, and the height of the mounting spots.
  • The recorder, storage and remote-viewing setup.
  • Whether you want an alarm system linked to the cameras.

FAQ

CCTV installation: your questions answered.

Are wired or wireless cameras better?

Wired cameras are generally more reliable because they don't depend on Wi-Fi strength. Wireless can suit spots where cabling isn't practical. We can talk through what suits your property.

How many cameras do I need?

It depends on the size of the property and what you want to see. Many homes start with cameras covering the front and rear entries and the driveway. Tell us about your property and we'll suggest a sensible layout.

Can I watch the cameras on my phone?

Most modern systems support this, provided the system is connected to the internet. Recording to a local recorder still works without internet.
